If you're interested in giving your child skills for life then Brazilian Jiu-jitsu may be the answer. Not only will they learn a form of self defence that can be applied in a non aggressive manor, they will also gain the benefits fromthe following areas:
Children not only learn and practice technique, but they then need to apply it to a live scenario and navigate their way out of complex scenarios to either escape a position or execute a submission.
Children learn discipline in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Participating in a structured Brazilian Jiu-jitsu class teaches respect and discipline, which can be transferred into many other aspects of life.
Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is very physically demanding. We slowly build up a child's fitness levels as their understanding of technique and ability to execute increase. Together with an array of warm ups focusing on strength, speed, agility, and proprioception your child's fitness levels will increase without them even noticing.
Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is a great self-defence system to learn. over 90% of physical altercations end up on the ground, which is where most injuries occur. This is where Brazilian Jiu-jitsu id most effective. Your child will learn to stay calm and focus on controlling the situation and subduing their attacker. In order for children to progress in their grades, they must demonstrate the knowledge learnt and their ability to effectively perform that knowledge in a live scenario. It's this "live scenario" which we label "rolling" that enables your child to practice their technique under duress, which determines if they can successfully execute it.
Once a child has learnt to apply a technique while "rolling", we are confident that they will be able to execute it in most situations outside of the dojo.
